Game Developers of Utah Summit Code of Conduct

1. Our Intent

The Game Developers of Utah Summit exists to foster a creative, professional, and welcoming environment for everyone in the game development community; across disciplines, experience levels, and backgrounds.

We are committed to building a space where people can share ideas, take risks, and connect without fear of harassment, exclusion, or intimidation.

This is not just an expectation. It is a requirement for participation.

2. Expected Behavior

All attendees, speakers, sponsors, and staff are expected to:

  • Treat others with respect, professionalism, and consideration
  • Communicate openly while remaining mindful of different perspectives and experiences
  • Engage in constructive feedback and collaboration
  • Respect personal boundaries, including physical space and consent
  • Follow all venue rules and applicable laws

If you’re unsure whether something is appropriate please err on the side of respect.

3. Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors will NOT be tolerated:

  • Harassment, discrimination, or exclusion based on race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age, or experience level
  • Sexual harassment, including unwelcome advances, inappropriate touching, or suggestive comments
  • If people tell you “no” or ask you to leave them alone, your business with them is done. If you continue to attempt to have contact with those people, you may be removed from the premises
  • Recording or photographing individuals without consent in private or sensitive contexts
  • Dismissive, belittling, or hostile behavior toward others’ work or identity
  • Deliberate exclusion or gatekeeping
  • Touching of service animals or disability devices without permission
  • Evaluating or commenting on anyone’s disabilities or access. Not all disabilities are visible.
  • Using “pornographic”, “sexually explicit”, or “indecent” images, activities, or clothing/costumes/uniforms or anything to create a sexualized public environment. *

This applies in all summit spaces: talks, workshops, social events, and online channels.

*Free speech will be respected. Discussions related to these subjects are permissible if (a) it is necessary to a topic of discussion and no alternatives exist, (b) it is represented in a respectful way towards everyone including LGBTQIA+, (c) the event and venue staff are aware and have given written permission.

4. Reporting Issues

If you experience or witness a violation of this Code of Conduct, we encourage you to report it as soon as possible to GDUS Staff.

Reports will be handled with discretion and seriousness. You will not be required to confront anyone directly.

All violations should be reported to:  info.gdus@gmail.com

5. Enforcement

Event organizers, venue staff, and moderators reserve the right to take any action deemed appropriate in response to violations, including:

  • Verbal warnings
  • Removal from specific sessions or events
  • Expulsion from the summit without refund
  • Banning from future events

We prioritize the safety and well-being of participants over the comfort of those engaging in harmful behavior.

6. Accountability

We expect everyone (not just attendees, but organizers, speakers, and sponsors) to uphold this Code of Conduct.

Creating a strong, respectful community is a shared responsibility.

7. Final Note

This summit is built by and for the community.

We are here to support each other, challenge each other, and grow together.

If you cannot contribute to that environment, this is not the space for you.
